American Street Food Distribution Center

The American Street Food Distribution Center is located at 1626-44 N. American Street in the American Street Industrial and Business District. The American Street District runs along American Street from Girard Avenue to Indiana Street in Eastern North Philadelphia. This corridor is characterized by a wide avenue providing easy access for trucks and trailers providing ease of traffic movement along American Street. At the height of development activity along American Street, businesses relocating to this Industrial District enjoyed the benefits offered by the State Enterprise Zone, the Federal Empowerment Zone and the Keystone Opportunity Zone Programs. These programs were developed by the federal, state, and local governments to promote growth and development in older industrial neighborhoods.

This 10,800 sq. ft. facility was completed in 2003 for the ARAMARK Corporation to create jobs for community residents and served as an anchor attracting other private and public investments in the American Street Business and Industrial District for over 13 years. This facility is now occupied by Newman’s Kitchen, a catering enterprise from New York, which continues to employ residents from the community and also provides incubator space to food service entrepreneurs from the area.
